How Trade Compass actually works — missions, Daily Sessions, trades, guardrails, scores and history.
Trade Compass is a manual trading journal and discipline tool. You create a mission — a goal, a deadline, your starting capital, and your own trading rules — and then run one Daily Session per trading day. The app records your trades, setups, decisions, rule violations, reflection and session outcome, and scores how well you followed the plan you committed to.
No. There is no broker connection, no market data feed, and no access to your funds. Every number in the app is a number you typed in yourself.
No. Trade Compass does not pick, place, or execute trades, and it sends no alerts or notifications. It checks the trades you log against the rules you set and blocks further logging when a limit is reached.
Your account holds missions. Each mission holds Daily Sessions — one per trading day. Each Daily Session holds the setups you are watching, the trades you took, the decisions you record against those trades, any rule violations, your recovery reflection, your debrief, your discipline score and your integrity record.
You start a mission with a goal and a target date. The app calculates the daily pace that goal implies and locks in your mission rules. Each trading day you run a Daily Session through six stages: My Commitment, Before I Trade, My Rules, Trading Session, My Reflection, Day Complete. You cannot skip forward — each stage unlocks only when the one before it is finished.
A mission is one goal with a deadline and a fixed set of rules. It stores your goal amount, start date, target date, starting capital, and your mission rules: max trades per day, max position size, max risk per trade, max daily loss, trading window, timezone, drawdown floor, cool-off lengths, and your assumed win rate and reward-to-risk.
At mission creation the app divides your goal by the number of trading days between your start date and target date — weekends and US market holidays excluded — and locks that figure in as your daily pace. That dollar figure never changes afterwards. Only the deadline moves.
No. Mission economics — goal, dates, starting capital, position size, risk, loss limits, trading window — are locked once the mission begins. Settings only lets you edit your profile, your pre-market checklist, your personal rules list, your core principle and security options. To change mission economics you start a new mission, which archives the current one.
Yes. Max position size, max risk per trade and max daily loss can each be set as a percentage. Percentage rules are recalculated from a capital basis equal to the lower of your starting capital and your current capital — so they tighten as you draw down, and never widen just because you are up.
Mission progress is calculated from the P&L of completed, valid trades recorded in that mission's Daily Sessions, including today's live session. Incomplete or still-open trades do not contribute to mission progress. Nothing else feeds it — no fees, no deposits, no adjustments.
Current capital is your starting capital plus your mission progress. It updates as you log trade results.
The drawdown floor is a percentage decline from your starting capital that you set when creating the mission (30% by default). When your capital falls to that line, a blocking dialog appears with two choices: close the mission, or restart a new mission anchored to your current capital. There is no way to dismiss it and keep trading the same mission.
The current live session is folded into history if it had any activity, the current mission moves into your archived missions list with a status (completed, capital breach, or replaced), and a fresh mission with a new Daily Session is created. Nothing is deleted.
A Daily Session is one trading day inside a mission. It records your commitment, your pre-market checklist, your rules review, the setups you are watching, every trade you took with the decisions you record against it, any rule violations, your recovery reflection, your written debrief, your discipline score and your integrity record.
You commit to the day first, then work the pre-market checklist, then review your rules. Only after those three stages are complete does the trading stage unlock and allow you to log trades.
It is your own list of items, edited in Settings, that you tick before trading. Every enabled item must be ticked to move past the Before I Trade stage, and completing the full checklist is one of the checks in your discipline score.
It shows the mission rules and personal rules you committed to and asks you to acknowledge them before trading. Acknowledging it unlocks the trading stage; nothing is enforced differently based on it.
The trading stage completes when you have at least one taken trade, every taken trade is fully filled in and marked complete, no trade breaches your position size limit or risks more than the amount invested, and — if you hit your daily target — the bonus trade decision has been resolved. A No Trade Day completes the trading stage on its own.
The debrief is the written reflection at the end of the day. A non-empty daily summary is required to finish the stage, and it counts as one of the seven checks in your discipline score.
A session dated before today is treated as stale. You cannot log new trades into it — it has to be closed or marked as a No Trade Day before you can trade again. If it had no real activity, a fresh session for today is created instead.
On your next visit the app detects the missed trading days — looking back up to 30 trading days and skipping weekends and market holidays — and shows a blocking summary. Those gap days are backfilled as automatic No Trade Days.
Today is blocked until you complete the recovery reflection for that violation: what the cause was, which rule you broke, and how you will prevent it. The block clears once all three are filled in.
Symbol, amount invested, max risk, entry price, exit price, P&L, the time it was taken, notes, and your pre-trade answers. Decisions are recorded against the trade inside the same Daily Session; setups are recorded separately against the session.
A Setup is a pattern, condition, or trade idea you record inside a Daily Session. It stores the symbol, entry, exit, and why you are watching the setup. Setups belong to the session and are separate from the Trade records you later log — a Setup does not automatically become a Trade, and the app does not link a Setup to a Trade.
A decision is a recorded evaluation attached to a specific trade — one for taking the trade and one for exiting it. A trade is not counted as complete until both exist.
When it is marked as taken, has a valid non-zero amount invested, a valid non-zero max risk, a valid P&L figure, and has both a took and an exited decision recorded. On top of that you must explicitly mark it complete before the trading stage will close.
A taken trade with no valid P&L entered yet. Open trades still consume a trade slot, and their risk still counts against your daily loss budget — using the risk you entered, or your max risk per trade if you have not entered one.
Daily P&L is calculated from the P&L of completed, valid trades in that Daily Session. Incomplete or still-open trades do not count toward the total. Trade results are entered manually; Trade Compass does not calculate them from broker or market data.
No. The number of trades taken is a permanent counter for the day. Deleting a trade removes it from your records but does not restore the slot, so the max-trades-per-day limit cannot be bypassed by deleting and re-entering.
No. If max risk is greater than amount invested, the trade is flagged and the session cannot be completed until it is corrected.
Adding a trade is blocked if the session is already completed, if the session is stale, if a cool-off is running, if you have used all your trades for the day, if the bonus trade is finished or still open, if your daily target is reached and you have not made the stop-or-bonus decision, if your realized loss plus open risk has reached your daily loss limit, or if you are outside your trading window.
Your realized losses for the day plus the risk still exposed on any open trades. When that total reaches your max daily loss, no further trades can be logged that day.
New trades are blocked once the clock is outside the window you set. The app does not close open trades or end the session for you — you still fill in your open trade, write your debrief and close the day yourself. Windows that cross midnight are handled correctly.
If cool-off is enabled for the mission, the first losing trade of the session starts a cool-off — 10 minutes by default. While it runs, no new trades can be logged.
A longer cool-off — 20 minutes by default — always applies after the second loss, even if cool-off was left off for the mission. Further losses re-lock for the same duration, unless you are on your last trade slot of the day.
No. Once a cool-off starts it is mandatory and there is no decline or skip path — trade entry stays blocked until the timer expires. The only choice you have is at mission creation, where the first-loss cool-off can be turned off.
Trade entry pauses and you are asked to decide: protect your gains and stop for the day, or take one more trade. The session cannot be completed until you choose.
One. The bonus trade uses one of your normal daily trade slots — it does not add an extra one. Once it is filled in and marked complete, the bonus is locked permanently for the day: editing or deleting that trade cannot reopen the bonus opportunity. Once the bonus trade is fully completed, the session automatically advances to My Reflection and no further trades can be logged. If you have not started it yet, you can change your mind and stop instead.
Declaring a No Trade Day closes the day with zero P&L and records it as a clean day. You cannot declare one after the session has already been completed.
Your target date moves forward by one trading day for each No Trade Day used, and for each banked shortfall day. Your goal and your daily pace figure stay the same.
Nothing is blocked and your score is unaffected. Shortfall days push your target date forward instead, so the pace stays realistic rather than forcing you to chase.
Weekends and US market holidays are excluded from all trading-day math — pace calculation, deadline extensions, and missed-day detection. Holidays are computed per year, including weekend-observed dates.
How well you followed your own plan that day — not your P&L. It is seven equally weighted checks: every trade within your position size limit, every trade inside your trading window, realized loss within your daily loss limit, full checklist completed, a written debrief, zero rule violations, and a completed recovery reflection if any violation occurred.
No. You can lose money and still score 100 by following your rules cleanly, and you can make money and score poorly by breaking them.
100, provided no violations were recorded for that day.
It is a per-session record of which stages were genuinely completed — commitment, checklist, rules, trading, debrief and recovery — derived independently from the score, so a session's history shows exactly what was and was not finished.
Because there is no real data behind that metric yet. Today's discipline score only shows once the session has genuine scoreable activity, and reward-to-risk needs at least one win and one loss before it can be calculated.
Discipline score today and on average, rule compliance today and on average, win rate, actual reward-to-risk, trading days, mission P&L and average risk per trade — all scoped to the mission you are viewing.
A diagnostic that compares the win rate and reward-to-risk you assumed at mission creation against what you have actually produced. It projects your expected daily P&L from your real numbers and tells you whether the mission is still on a realistic path.
Once the mission has at least 30 taken trades and your projected daily P&L from actual results falls below your daily target. Below 30 trades there is not enough of a sample, so it stays hidden. It only appears for your active mission.
It identifies whether the shortfall is mostly win rate, reward-to-risk or trade volume, then shows the single change to each lever that would close the gap — including risk per trade, flagged as unsafe above 20%. It also shows the honest exits: lower your daily pace, extend your target date, or, when your edge is negative, fix win rate or reward-to-risk before anything else.
Two things: a list of every archived mission with its outcome, and a Daily Sessions journal for the mission currently in view. Opening an archived mission shows its rules as committed and all its completed Daily Sessions; opening a day shows that session's trades, checklist, compliance, decisions, reflection and violations.
The journal is always scoped to the mission you are currently in — your active mission, or the archived mission you are previewing. Sessions from different missions are never mixed.
The app enters a read-only preview: mission, history, analytics and settings all switch to that archived mission, and every action that would change data is disabled. A banner offers a return to your current mission.
No. All state changes are suppressed while previewing, and your live session is deliberately excluded from a previewed mission's analytics. The preview is also not saved — a refresh returns you to your active mission.
Only missions archived because they were replaced can be restored. Restoring archives your current session and current mission first, then makes the restored mission active with a fresh session. Gap days in the restored mission with no completed trade are converted into No Trade Day records.
It is deleted permanently. The mission row is removed from the database after confirming you own it, and its sessions, trades, decisions, setups and rules are removed along with it. Its history is also purged from the app. There is no undo, and you cannot delete your active mission.
Everything saved to your account: your missions, Daily Sessions, trades, setups, decisions, checklist, rules, scores and history. Saves are debounced, queued so only the newest state is written, and flushed when you close the tab. An archived-mission preview does not survive a refresh, and a running cool-off does.
It shows saving, saved, or error. A failed save retries automatically once, and you can trigger a retry yourself. If it shows an error, your latest changes have not reached the server yet.
Your data is stored against your account and every read and write is scoped to your user id, both in the app and in the database. Trade Compass never accesses your brokerage or your funds — everything in the app is data you entered yourself.
Yes. The Danger Zone in Settings lets you export your data, reset to defaults, delete individual archived missions, and delete all of your data.
Yes, Trade Compass is free for now.
No. Trade Compass is a discipline and journaling tool, not financial advice. All figures come from data you enter, and you are responsible for your own trades and decisions.
